Well since I can't run the Elcon Cleon in the snow up here this is what I'm using instead. My home built airboat!! Now that the snow is here let the fun begin.

Thanks! Some of use can't do much when the snow comes down. I had a Smartech 23CC engine so I thought I'd put it to some good use!!

Here are the materials I used which can give others some ideas and maybe build their own!

Smartech 23cc
Prop adapter from Al at BH Hanson
APC 14x7 puller prop
FG gas tank
FG receiver box
6V sub c's for receiver pack.
20' of aluminum 1"x1" angled aluminum
2' of "box" aluminum
45' Boggie.Body Board for snow
Hitech 805 and 5745 largescale servos
Spektrum DX3R
Corrigated plastic for rudder.
1/2 steel mesh wire used to make a prop cage for safety reasons
Misc. hardware, nuts bolts screws, rivets and zip ties!!

First long run was pretty good yesterday.

Today there was more snow but now it's raining. []

Nice one Selwa! It would have been useful these past days around here. Ice, rain and then some snow.

How's the center of gravity on it and the handling? Any idea on the speed? Now all you need is some wings...

HAHAHAH thats hilariously funny!
BUT DOES IT WORK?

I think You will needa bigger prop. Its a lot of structure weight there.

Over ice it may work good... it may be a 'Frozen Pond racer".

Yes it works!!, Here's some pics after I drove it around on Monday with the small amount of snow we had. All I had was my cell to take pics.

The only issue I had was to keep the front nose down on high speeds since it likes to flex up. I added a brace in the front and with more snow I'll see how the turns are for balance. I may have to add 2 small skis to help with this. It's only 16lbs so the 23CC does a nice job. I may try a different pitch but for now I'm very happy with it. I'll have to get someone to video it next time I'm out.

Most fun I've had in the winter beside driving my Hummer H1 through the snow.

It's a snowboat! Very cool! Should provide lots of entertainment.
It looks like the mechanicals are modular so it should be ripe for experimentation. If the nose tends to lift you could try moving the COG forward a bit or adjust the thrust angle. I built a couple of airboats, one boogey board based and the other built around giant scale airplane floats. Both now reside in Davey Jones Locker.[&o]
Have a great time with it.

First video on ice! Brad (AKA Bradius) was driving it while I filmed. It moves without even using the throttle!!

You have to extend the board, put some handles on it and get children to ride it [:P]

You could charge like $5 a go!

lol

Add some runners to the bottom to help with straight line stability. 1/8 or 3/16 key stock, two pieces three to four inches long near the rear of the board. Same thing they use on snow mobile skis.

This was just a run on ice. I may extend the bolts on the bottom to act as guides.

As for riding it. Canada has too many CSA issues about safety.

You only have to meet the CSA standards if you intend to sell it!
