Davids rc sounds like you are well on your way. There are a lot of skilled airboat builders on this forum that can help you. Do you have pics so we can see what you are working with? You should meet up with DJLaPalme, he lives in your area.

What kind of RPMs are you getting at WOT with that prop? How much does the boat weigh RTR? Seems to me that might be too much pitch to get the RPMs high enough to get it moving.

if u only have 1.2 hp u have to much prop on there. slick bottom would help u run the hill better. but u have to get some more rpm . maybe bigger carb would help too. i have a 4.25 27cc motor and i run a 14x7 3 blade. my 50cc twin with 5 hp i run the 16x10

davids rc 05-25-2011 07:11 PM

RE: airboat in progress

so a 13x8 3 blade would be better

RE: airboat in progress

yes i would think. how much does your hull weigh?

davids rc 05-25-2011 07:22 PM

RE: airboat in progress

bout 5 or 6 pounds this is my first airboat

davids rc 05-25-2011 07:24 PM

RE: airboat in progress

i had a friend cover it in epoxy feed carbon fiber and i think it may be to heavy

ptr34 05-25-2011 07:26 PM

RE: airboat in progress

it should move on the grass. my boat weighs 29.40 lbs. if you motor is 5 lbs and hull is 5 lbs . it should move. post a better pic when u get a chance. is the boat a flat bottom?

davids rc 05-25-2011 07:32 PM

RE: airboat in progress

yes it is a flat bottom

RE: airboat in progress

i would try other prop. and go from there. if all else fails u can buy a 27cc 3.25 hp cy motor off ebay for 150. that will make that thing fly

RE: airboat in progress

i was told that i could cut this prop down if need be is that true

You can, but its a heck of a lot harder to balance a 3-blade than it is a 2-blade prop IMO. It still needs to be done, but if another prop can be found of the right size, I'd buy it vs. cutting a prop down. That is unless you can re-contour the end of the blade so the ends arent just blunt square ends. Square edges = far less efficient.

RE: airboat in progress

You can, but you have to balance it or it will vibrate and wear out your bearings and loosen up your bolts and screws. Dennis

RE: airboat in progress

ok well i think im just going to build a new hull and buy a new prop the problem is their is not many pushers to choose from especially in the 3 blade where can i obtain planes for the hull or is it better to just wing it

rcairboater 05-26-2011 04:42 AM

RE: airboat in progress

If you cut the prop down go no further than 1/2" on each blade from the tip.

ptr34 05-26-2011 06:18 AM

RE: airboat in progress

i have a cut down reshaped and rebalanced 16x10 to a 14x10. if u want to try it,. before i would build a new hull i would get a different engine. thats not alot of power for a heavy motor

davids rc 05-26-2011 07:53 AM

RE: airboat in progress

that would be great if you do not mind ptr34 how can i get it

ptr34 05-26-2011 07:20 PM

RE: airboat in progress

maybe coming up that way on the 5 i could bring it and we could me at the pond
