New Step Hull Ride

This is a new build that I’m doing for a guy in Wisconsin. This boat is being powered by a 50.0 cc Desert Aircraft motor. We are going to be using a reverse rotation module to allow the use of standard rotation propellers with this application. This particular boat will be set up with a 4-channel remote system. By no means is this the hull I am using, just for fitting purposes only as shown. In the mold now is a hull that has a Glossy Dark Charcoal Gray Gel Coat on the exterior and a carbon fiber interior finish. There will be slick bottom applied to the hull. The seats are to be laid up with a carbon fiber finish as well. The metal work you see here will be Powder Coated with the color of Fluorescent Orange or as the coating guy calls it “F___ing Orange” lol.

RE: New Step Hull Ride
Looking good buddy! You should try to use stainless on your next one.

RE: New Step Hull Ride
Those look great just need a scale crawler to pull them. :)

RE: New Step Hull Ride
Great job!
The orange cage work stands out nicely against the blackhull, love it!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ades_smile.gif |
RE: New Step Hull Ride
Thanks for the compliments guys. The hull is a Deep Glossy Charcoal Grey with Black Slick Bottom on the under side of the hull. The inside of the hull is a Carbon Fiber Finish. Agreed with the Crawler Idea, I have a 1/4 scale WCM Chevy Truck Body along with 8-1/2" tall Swamp Kong Tires. Would like to build a Big Foot Style Chassis and hook it up the Trailer for a show piece.

RE: New Step Hull Ride
hey buddy, awsome boats !! Is that a aircraft internatinal prop ? and what size ? I'm building a step hull with a 61cc poulan chainsaw engine and was wondering what size prop to use. I want to run a three blade as well !
|
RE: New Step Hull Ride
The Engine used on the Orange and Carbon Fiber Boat is a 50 cc Desert Aircraft. Th other two boats have 5.2 Hp motors from Hobby King. The Carbon Fiber Prop is manufactured by Biela its a 20 x 10, How ever I do also have a 22 x 10 Carbon 2- Blade as well which is more of a Paddle Prop for Torque. Its sad to say I haven't ran the boats since January doe to this years work demands but I look forward to see how they preform with wnd without the Nitrous shot.

RE: New Step Hull Ride
I cant wait to see them run either ! I first saw you boats on rcairbots.net and have been waiting on a water tests video. I have a 61cc poulan that I'm gonna use for my build . its basically brand new by the way the cylinder looks.. how does that 50cc spin that 20x10 ? because thats the same prop I've had in mind for my build

RE: New Step Hull Ride
Sorry for the late reply I've been working allot. Here are a few videos on the boats running. I'm ashamed of myself, I havent even ran them since January this year. RE: New Step Hull Ride
I machine my Propeller Hubs to where you can put a 3/4" socket up to it on a drill and start the engine. Its an billet aluminum hub.

RE: New Step Hull Ride
Thank You for the Compliment!!! I'm going to build a Deck Over Glades Style Hull & an Open Aluminum Hull similar to Diamondback style. The Prop Adapter is held on by the 4 bolts going into the propeller hub. All of these bolts have lock washers on them. Periodically you might have to check the torque but not often, about once in 20 runs.

RE: New Step Hull Ride
I'd be interested in the glades style deckover. When is the fabrication going to begin?

I'm not certain on the fabrication start date. My work has me by the ass, and on top of that I'm moving soon. This hull will be tricky to build considering weld distortion of the flat bottom. I'm higly considering the hull to be completely built with rivits.
Rivet, Head Type 100 Degree Countersunk, Rivet Type Solid Aerospace, Rivet Material 2117T4 Aluminum, Rivet Dia. 3/32 In., Rivet Length 1/4 In. These are solid rivits similar to the ones used in full scale polymere applications. These would be used on the exterior of the hull. Solid Rivet, Flat Head, Aluminum, Rivet Dia 3/16 In, Rivet Length 3/8 In, Head Diameter 0.375 In, Head These would be used for the internal structural portion. |
RE: New Step Hull Ride
Going for the palm beach style hull. what kind of specs is the hull going to be?

Not necessarily Palm Beach Style, however its a great Bench Mark for design ideas. I will produce in on Auto Cadd before construction. its most likely going to be 40 to 42 inches OAL with a 3-1/2" total Bottom to Deck depth at the most exstreme depth. The hull metalwork has to be done at a thickness of 0.60 and deck out of +/- 0.32. More than likely im stepping down in power from 50 cc 5.2 hp to 26 cc 3.7 hp due to the face that this is going to be based on a Ride Boat not a Race Boat and considering the amount of time and effort that its going to take fabbing everything. More for show I'd guess. Now on tre other hand on the Open Hull Concept I'd keep the power the same and continue with the Nos I'b build a Grass Rake to go with as shown and the Rigging to be a Single front op with a Double rear seat. In other words a Race Ready Ride Boat. As shown in picture of my friends boat.

Thats pretty heavy stuff .60 and .32 . I'm sure you ment .060 and .032 (1/16" and 1/32" ) . You do some nice work . Keep em coming .

Yes .060 and .032 is what i mean. I like the art of building these and have allot of ideas on what to do next. I just need the funds to do what I truly want to do and that is 2 different builds. I build with a OS-320 motor. And the other build with a Conley V-8 and custom gear box. I already have a design for an adjustable pitch prop and hub for these if I get there.
