My new airboat. Help me identify it.
 

Hello. I just picked a whole bunch of different rc goodies from a very nice older gentleman getting out of rc. One of them is this airboat. It's never been run and the engine has never seen fuel. It's been a shelf queen and most likely I'll keep it as such. Any experts know what this might be and if it was a good value? I paid $155 (that's USD).

It seems to be either plastic or fiberglass, I can't quite tell which but if I had to guess I'd say thick vacuum-formed plastic, formed in 2 pieces and glued together at the center line. It's 29" from back of the hull to sponson tip and 33" overall if you count from tip of sponson to the back of the over-hanging fuel tank. Has 2 Futabs s-148 servos already hooked up but no tx and no rx. Motivation provided by a virgin Webra 6.5cc.

Your boat is a FlightCraft Miss Outlaw, out of production for about 20 years. No idea of its value, although within the past five years I’ve seen the similar Hobbico and Aquacraft AirForce airboats sold on line for between $75 and $200.

Aha! Perfect. Even though it's nothing more than vacuum-formed plastic, even a plastic rudder, it is very light as compared to a similar sized wood hull and still is a small piece of rc history I suppose. Thank you again for identifying it.

I just got my hands on one of those outlaw brand new with a os max FP 40 brand new exactly like the one above. I got it for $200 but include a futaba remote SR. Does anyone have more info on it or when it was made? Thanks for any info.

You really don't need an air filter. But if you must, one can be made by stretching a piece of nylon stocking over the venturi and using a rubber band to hold it in place. Warning: Check with your significant other before cutting up one of her stockings.

Filling the tank. If it has two lines coming off it, disconnect the one to the carb and fill through that. If three lines the shortest, not connected one should be a vent. Disconnect either of the other two and fill through one of them. But normal practice is to use the one on the carb. When full fuel should squirt out the remaining line be it the vent or the exhaust. And yes, in both cases don't forget to reconnect the line to the carb. You'll find the engine runs better that way. :)

I have to agree with what Retired said. Since your motor is not going to be running a car or buggy, a filter isn't needed. Just fuel it up, make sure you have good batteries for the radio and start it up. One word of caution, don't try to "slam it into a corner". The boat is probably going to be top heavy so, until you get to know what it's going to do, be gentle on the controls
