need help!!
Hi i need to know how tight you tork the nut on for the prop and also if you use thread lock on it?? the motor turns as if so the blade bolt would tighten also right?
THANKS |
RE: need help!!
I torque mine till the nut doesn't move any more with a standard length box wrench. The crank turns in the opposite direction of tightening this is why sometimes if an engine kicks back it can throw the prop. Any new spinner will have the nut come loose over the first little while due to the spinner backplate compressing.

RE: need help!!
So then what way do you start the motor? which way does it turn clockwise?

RE: need help!!
All glow engines run counter clockwise unless you have modded them to run clockwise. If your engine starts and runs clockwise then this is a sign of flooding, don't asl me why it does it but it does. You'll be able to tell by which way the air is moving through the prop.

RE: need help!!
Like CANADIANJOSH ,
Tighten as tight till the nut does not move freely . Lock Tight ... I myself never use it , but I guess a fellow could use the red ( NOT the blue - you'll bust something BEFORE you ever get it back off again - :) ) You could also do what I did on one of my engines , go to you local hardware store and get a nylock nut that will fit the shaft . ( I brought mine right into the store to make sure I got the right size ) |
RE: need help!!
Yes nylock nuts work very well one of my engines uses one and the other has a lock washer between the nut and washer. I always got tired of the nut coming loose because then i'd have to take the spinner cone off and tighten and put it back on. However, if you ever cross thread a nylock nut onto your shaft you'll never get it off. Had this happen on 4 3/4"x 10" carriage bolts on my dock, for some reason they'd cross and it felt just normal but when we tried undoing them we couldn;t get them to budge even with and impact hammer.!!! Cutting 3/4" stainless with a hacksaw is not fun:(
