Big Ugly Red

I was hoping to get it wet this evening, but the North wind is too strong.
Is this ugly, or what...!

Sir Walter,
That boat is sooo simply made that it's Brilliant!!! Thanks for showing me why I've been saving those old pill bottles. I'm a fan of reusing things for other than original purpose. How about hot gluing a couple empty 2 liter plastic bottles in the hull for flotation?? IMO, a great boat!! Best to ya!!
Gordy

That doesn't look bad at all. I too like the simplicity!

One thing I do question is the rudder linkage. I think you'd find that it would work better if you move the control horn up to the front of the rudder and shorten the arm on the servo.

Is that an MDS on there???

I agree with Keith's comment........

Where the horn is located will put stress on the rudder and servo and also limit the throw to the rudder.
By moving the horn closer to the rudders pivot point, the rudder will be more free and stress free. Line up the holes on the arm with the pivot point and it will work a lot better.

Here is a pic to show what I mean.........

Good idea Gordy...!

I agree with you Keith.
The reason I have it in this position is to get Maxium (almost 90deg.) rudder control.
I'm prepaired to make field adjustments if needed.
I don't know yet what this thing might do?

Thanks for the picture Mark,
I'll move it and try it before I head out.

RE: Big Ugly Red

I would also be concerned about the size of your rudder - especially in a strong northern wind.

Ugly ???? No ....
Toss some matching red paint on the wood sections and there ya go .....
Get yourself a bigger rudder on her and then take some video footage for us to see . :D
Thats whats SOOOOOOO GREAT about airboats . There is NO right and no wrong way ( just a few basics ) and experimentation is what its all about .

I'v never tested it on water, just snow and ice. The weight i
dont know, but it's a tad on the heavy side.

sirwalter 07-31-2004 09:59 AM

RE: Big Ugly Red

Snowpulk,
So is mine a little on the heavy side.
The only way to get more speed is go with a larger motor. I guess...!
