First build need a little advise

Hi,

I have been into rc trucks since day one, but just recently I have got the bug for boats (bigtime). I have decided to build an airboat as my first scratch build as I have some plans and it seems the easiest option to me.

You can see the build process here [link=http://www.rckingdom.co.uk/main/projects/project5/project5.html]AIRBOAT[/link] I'm sure some of you guys can find faults with my build, but its going together well and it is my first attempt.

I am now at the point of spraying the model and would then like to apply stickers etc. What is the best product to seal these on with, as I don't want them coming off after her first run[:o] That is if she floats :D

Great job on teh building! [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

To preserve the pain and stickers you could epoxy over the boat after you have it looking like you want.
This will preserve the finish and make it scratch proof to an extent.

Let us how how it runs.....maybe even some video! :D:D:D

A clear polyurethane varnish will also work to preserve decals (stickers) on the hull, as well as giving an added fuel-proofing coat to the paint job.

Thanks for the help guys;) Hopefully it will be up and running in a couple of weeks.

I will definitely get some video when complete[8D] I have already started planning my second airboat (twin prop)

Very nice work, I'm impressed!

And it runs very smooth with snappy turns!

Speedwise, it looks a tad underpowered, does your esc allow for an extra cell?
If so, try 7 instead of 6 cells.

Regards, Jan.

It looks good, your able to control it!
Thanks for sharing th evideo!!!:D:D

Have you tried different props?

And one more question....why didn't you jump them waves? :D:D:D

Good looking hull you have there. And by the looks of your construction pictures, it's very well made.

I would also suggest trying a different size prop. A 19 turn motor sould be able to swing one of pretty good size. But I doubbt it will work with your current mount set-up. But you could easily modify it to be a bit taller to be able to swing a bigger prop.

Or you could get a lower turn motor and try to raise the speed. :)

Because it really was its first ever run:) didn't fancy losing it to the Thames first time out:D

I wouldn't be able to change the prop to gain more speed, but I do have a bucket load of spare motors in the garage. A 14t double has got its name on the Airboat next. The esc will run up to 7cell which I had running on the boat. I do have a Novak Duster which could take 10cells though, will give it a go over the coming weeks[8D]

This was always going to be a practise model, so I will chop and change things on it.

Thanks for all the comments guys, you will here from me more often now.

Colin
