Help with Fox engine
I have a new Fox Eagle 60 that I have been struggling with since August 04. It will start but will not stay running. It is mounted high on an airboat and I have tried multiple fuel tank locations some being pressurized with check valves in the fuel and pressure lines, others being simple gravity feed.
The engine will start but runs rough and dies. It will some times start then stop and run backwards then stop and run forwards. In most cases it wil die as soon as the leads are removed from the glowplug. I have relaced the plug three times and gone thru as many batteries. It has been back to Fox twice who say it is fine and runs full range from idle to 13,500 RPM, yet when I get it back it won't do squat. Is there anyone out there who knows Fox engines that can give me some advice? |
RE: Help with Fox engine
Is this the EAGLE with oversized backplate ( the one that fites over the crank area opposite the ouput shaft ) ? back-firing could be caused from
1) too much fuel 2) timing off 3)wrong fuel pre centage 4) wrong temp glow Now , the problem , more than likely is you have the wrong glow in there ... have you tried different temps ? ( betcha you have one in there that has the idle bar on it also , huh ? ) try changing glow first ... ( even though I bet that will cure it ) Also , is comp good ? This also occurs sometimes when the above is mixed with a worn engine ... meaning that comp is not up to par , but is good enought to run . When FOX sent you the findings , did they tell you the BHP also or just the R's ? A worn engine will still rap out the Rs , but not the BHP that its rated for . Like I said , first changing glow , then different fuel precentage ( and sometimes , even just different fuel from a different jug , or company ... ) But ,betcha that the glow will change your problem . try a HOTTER plug . |
RE: Help with Fox engine
I've had some problems with the Fox carburetors. Even had a new one with the carburetor wrongly assembled. Obviously yours must be put together correctly or the factory couldn't have made it run. If you have any other Fox users in the neighborhood have them look at the carb in comparison with their own.
