RE: cheapoooooo
alrighty, im gunna see if i can get a motor for free before i look to ebay. Ive bought two blown ones off of ebay. I have a blown old marine specialties in the attic. Can i rebuild it and use it.
|
RE: cheapoooooo
Yes ... that I what I would do , but of course , this all depends on what happened to it that you are calling it "blown"
|
RE: cheapoooooo
one of the many reasons i hate ebay. Bought it, started it, after ten seconds blown It had been poorly repaired, just so they could sell it on ebay i think. I think it just needs a rebuild kit. It's quite old.
|
RE: cheapoooooo
But what I meant was , did you pop a hole thru the piston , bend the con rod , bad crank , wrist pin , or just bad ring(s) ? bearings ?
What exactly is wrong with it ? Cracked jug .... ? |
RE: cheapoooooo
im not really sure, i assume it's just blown gaskets. I never thought about any of the other things. I think i will take it apart, and see whats wrong.
|
RE: cheapoooooo
yeah .... thats best . Then you can evaluate whether or not its worth repairing or pitching it in the old junk pile . [&o]
( sometimes repair parts cost MORE than a brand new one would . [:o] ) |
RE: cheapoooooo
yup ill take it apart tommorow after exams. I had my truck apart today, so im not up to it right now haha
|
RE: cheapoooooo
could you just use a car battery for the engine starter since it is 12 volts or is it too many amps[sm=confused.gif]
|
RE: cheapoooooo
Yes ... thats what I use .... sometimes I just use the battery that is in my pickup and run a LONG extension cord that I put gator clips on just for that reason . ( big deal - the extension cord cost me a whopping $5.00 at Menards for a 60 footer )

RE: cheapoooooo
kool now i jus have to either buy a starter or chicken stick...how would you prime the engine to start it with a chicken stick?
|
RE: cheapoooooo
Ummm ... chicken stick a weedie ? Kinda hard ... I use a drill with a bit attached that fits the botl head holding on the prop ...
Won't get that engine spinning fast enough to create spark with a chicken stick . |
RE: cheapoooooo
no jus for a nitro engine sorry a little off topic[:o]
|
RE: cheapoooooo
Ohhh ... sorry , thought you were talking gas ..Yes , for a nitro . Their fine
|
RE: cheapoooooo
how would you prime the engine to start it with a chicken stick? |
RE: cheapoooooo
never thuaght about that and then jus put the hose back on the muffler:D:D:Dthnx
|
RE: cheapoooooo
Ok , are we talking nitro or gasser ?
gasser ... no pressure line and no line to the exhaust at all nitro , yes , to pressurize the fuel tank . gasser ... prime by thunmy the carb venturi nitro ... either blow thru the pressurized side , or pour a pinch of fuel into the carbs opening , or use an electric starter and thumb the exhaust stinger ( blocking it off ) |
RE: cheapoooooo
for a gasser you could put in a vent hose, and blow through it is all i was saying. i do use the thummy meathod though.
|
RE: cheapoooooo
ok sorry for confusing you guys but yall answered my questions.i think i will buy the engine and jus use a chicken stick to start.then prolly blow though the pressure hose and put it back on the exuast
|
RE: cheapoooooo
even with a chickhen stick, the engine still can back fire, causing the chinkhen stick to fly back at you. You will have times when the engine will be hard to start, and you will get tired and more than likely give up on a fun hobby.....Best thing to do is spend $20.00 on a starter. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJC35&P=ML
|
RE: cheapoooooo
i will have to go with a chicken stick at first becuase i dont think i will have enough money for a starter..manuel starts are harder i have a pull start on my nitro v
