QUEST FOR SPEED
Ok, the goal is to go as fast as possible and set a speed record for the US. Powered by a Evolution 1.00. The boat is 41" long and 35" wide.

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
whats the record???....You may wanna try an APC prop( they have always been good for going fast on airplanes)....
|
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Now that is very nice [8D]:D
|
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
yeah its definatly a sick looking boat....I hope you get vid. of the speed atempt, may also consider a tuned pipe(macs)hanging out the back, go like 45%fuel maybe even 60% but thats pushing it for that motor...hey a record would be worth a toasted motor...

ORIGINAL: Vertical3-D whats the record???....You may wanna try an APC prop( they have always been good for going fast on airplanes).... The record in the states ? I know of none. I just want to make a mark and if it strikes off a competition....well, sounds fun and expensive:D. The Japenese have had boats over the 100 mph mark. I have my eye on 60mph. Thanks for the apc tip. Bought a radar gun on ebay for the proof. Wish me luck. |
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
yeah good luck for sure....I just bought a garmin etrex GPS tonight on ebay, 89 bucks shipped and its brand new in the box. I dont usually run with some else there to hold a radar gun for me, also I am inmto offroading, both in trucks(not often) and alot on atvs...I wanna see how my 1/4 scale does speed wise on water. also I just bought a nitro Vee which should get here next week(im gonna try to make it hit at least 30mph on stock engine, which is hauling for that boat. a pylon plane can do over 200 mso im sure an airboat could hit 150 if really really really worked on to do just that, at that speed it be more of a plane anyway...like unlimeted hydroplanes how they barley touch at all...blowovers will surely be the worst enemy here...cant wait to see it this thing sparks competition...I may even have to make an attemp on it...

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Not quite sure that placing the engine in the rear would be best . Think since the riggers are meant for more of a forward mounted engine , might be the best bet for it as an airboat as well . ( just a thought Otherwise ... good idea ....
Good luck also |
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
With the natural lifting effect from the force of pull being higher up than the water prop, the engine may work better in the rear.
The idea of setting records sounds like a wild and fun idea to me, would love to build a hull to try and beat the mark that you make. |
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
yeah this could be a whole new thing taking off, I'd love to see a comp start, up, i have a few small motors laying around and wouldnt mind haveing a go at it. maybe build a .25, just small so the power to wiegh it the same as using a .46

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Just finished the engine stand.

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Just a thought but b/c your trying to get alot of speed out of it. Should you not mount the gas tank down and into the hull. Is it not stopping the propeller from having a straight path though the back for air?
|
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
yeah and on that note sheet over the holes int the standoffs and also round the fronts and taper the back, areo dynamic cover for the radio gear...could get you 1-2mph more...
|
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
I am gonna work on a boat for speed, a smaller boat with a magnum .28 engine on it, Ill gps it when I get it going...c-mon guys this would be awesome if more than just two ppl did it, and it would gain alot of usefull information on hull types, whats good for speed, handleing at speed...staying on the water, instead of taking it for a flight and a swim at once...Ill update in the thread when I get anything done...

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
RC Airboat World is going to be holding a year long contest that will happen every year to see who can document the fastest airboat.
Will post more about it later. Andy has started something....[8D] I can't wait to see what comes from it!! I got some ideas running through my head! ;);) |
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Just recieved this in the mail.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...4/100_0994.jpg There is also a .50 cent coupon for maxi pads in the deal also. GET FRESH |
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Hey, don't knock them feminine items, they make great first aid supplies (unfortunately, this I know from experience)
|
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
I like it ! But I tend to agree w/ Gyrotech to either mount the tank in the hull or - better yet sacrifice an airplane fuselage to build the motor pylon out of.. I think you would gain more like 5-10 mph there.

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
SOOOO when is it going to hit the water ?:D
|
RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
Well guys, you goty me talked into joining the fun. I have never built an airboat before, but I am starting one this weekend, and I will keep you posted on how thigns turn out. I'm sure there will be a learning curve, but when I get it figured out I will do my best to keep you working for more speed so you can stay ahead of me:D BTW< this is a great forum and I look foward to many enjoyable posts.

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
I was reading a book to my child when a name just stood out. Since some here think foam based boats are toys. I decided the name should come from a child's story book. Eeyore!

RE: QUEST FOR SPEED
The outrigger hydro's hold the speed records in the water prop driven boats, there is no doubt that they are fast. Only thing with this style of boat is the turning, without a turn fin, it is hard to make anykind of a sharp turn at high speeds. On the water prop boats I can tell you the exact point for the cg and the placement of a turn fin, since I have never built a air prop driven outrigger, it would only be a guess on the placements. Good luck on your build, and don't give up on the outrigger hull. They are very unforgiven, but once all is dailed in, your not gonna find a boat that will get the blood moving as good as this boat.
