Boogie Board Conversion
 

Hello everyone....Thought you might appreciate this. One of the guys in our club converted a 1989 Morey boogie board into one cool airboat. It's first run on the water was yesterday and it was awesome. With a totally flat bottom it was like watching drifting but on the water! I'm not sure if anyone has done this before but I thought you might get a kick out of it as we did! His total investment was $100.

Looks great. Thanks for sharing. Tell your buddy to get rid of that wooden prop. Tell him great work on the engine stand.
Does the board have fins.

Thats awesome. He did a great job on the boat and thanks for sharing it here. Drifting on water, what a cool thought.[8D] Hmmm... new sport maybe?:)

asmithnc is rite he needs to change the wood prop out for a plastic one because wood props splinter apart then shatter easily when water hits them.

Thanks guys....I'll be sure to let him know about the prop. The board has 2 fins that are functional but when we tried using 1 or both it simply wouldn't turn. Any suggestions on how to minimize the drift factor if we wanted? I was thinking of some stick on body moulding and create some chines with it.

The forces on the air rudders is much lower than the force on the fins. You will need a water rudder to match or increase the forces that the fins make. I would keep the rudder as close to the transom as possible.

Airboats with air rudders will always "drift"(slide) to turn, just not uncontrollably. Any fins in the water combined with air rudders will most likely only make for loss in turning(wider, still slide). A water rudder is about the only correction, since it somewhat "grabs the water" to steer. I'd recommend he keeps the rudders as they are.;)

Remove the fins and use a 1/4 inch thick peice of wood ( the same size that is sued for windows when putting in a new piece of glass . Then CA glue it and seal it up and run it from the back to the front , a little over half way . This will give you a little more "dig" and slow the "drifting" effect and will also allow the air rudders to do their thing .
As was already said ... taht wood prop is a BIG no-no .... it WILL splinter on you and send little slivers flying ! ( and you thought the last time you ran your finger along a rough piece of wood and got that LITTLE splinter it was rough :) )
