Default Chriscraft "Cobra"

"Father & Son"
I went out to visit my parents today and my father, who is now 79, said he had something he wanted me to have. Take a look at what it was. I knew what it was when he took it out of it's hiding place for the last 55 years. It has a cradle and a snap-on hand made canvas cover with carrying straps. I almost came to tears when I got it home and uncovered it. An all wood hand made ChrisCraft "Cobra" and after going over it with a slightly damp cloth this is what it looks like after 55 years!
The size is 46" long with a 16" beam width. The hull is in perfect shape and is the original fiberglassed hull and finish. It was originally powered with a inboard water cooled Johnson 35. I am speechless at this point but have to share it with you all.
I will need to re-fit it with another engine and am open to suggestions. I believe another nitro inboard of .45-.60 size will be in order. A gasoline engine will not fit under the rear hatch. I do not want to alter the original look of the boat in any way and this boat is for scale appearance and not meant to be a hot rod.

That is a very nice Cobra. You're one lucky son to inherit that baby. You could convert it to electric.

Thanks for the compliment. Sorry.....no on the electric. I see ASP makes a .46 and a .61 nitro marine engine. Not real big on Chinese engines but this is just a nice boat that does not need a real expensive fire breathing monster under the hood. If I use an ASP engine I will most certainly put an O.S. carb on it!! I would really like to find an ENYA marine inboard for it. That would be my #1 choice since Enyas are built for torque and run forever. I'm going to fill the tub up some night and check it for leaks. The exhaust is on the transom at the waterline.

Yes I knew he had it all these years. He also had some "girlie mags" hidden in the bottom of the same display cabinet. I don't know which got looked at the most when I was a kid!! Recently I told Dad I would buy it from him ( the boat!) anytime, but he refused to take my money. He would only give it to me if I accepted it as a gift and yes, I will keep it for sure. Hopefully next spring we will take a ride to the lake with the Cobra refitted with new running gear and radio and go back in time together. I am truely humbled. Here's a few more pictures. The one picture is of Dad launching my Lanier "Shrike" with K/B 7.5cc ducted fan engine. We have been in the hobby all my life. Mostly planes...and one boat.

Most city parks will not let you run gas or nitro.
Electric is faster than gas.

No gas/nitro in city parks? That's too bad. Guess I will see you at the lake then? You probably don't get to see many nice looking gals waterskiing at your local city park. Don't people whine because you scare the ducks?

Seriously:
We have a fellow club member that owns 3 private gravel pits. The smallest is 37 acres and the larger one is over 60 acres. One is active and being dredged but the other two are abandoned. Perfect for RC floatplanes and boats. No babes though!

Electric is faster than gas/nitro? Let's not get into that argument..okay?
Not too concerned about speed with this boat anyways. No electrics for me!

Electric is nice but I never learned how to play and not get dirty.
