What radio???
Get the best radio you can afford.
AM radios are OK for sunday fun boats, but do not always work as well in congested areas, or if there is a lot of cell or pager activity close by.
If you are running any kind of ignition engine (gas) I would use FM.
Most PCM radios have some nice features, but unless you need the ultimate in precision, and top of the line, just stick with FM.
I would be looking for a radio that had the features I wanted first, and then decide what modulation worked best for me.
