Glen:

Yes, they still give out the EOP and even the same BIG trophy. They added a couple layers to the trophy and it is really impressive.

I won it back in the 70's and even won it in the late 90's when I had gotten old.

Looking at the names on that trophy really brings back memories and there are some great racers on it.

Hi Marty,
I wonder how I could get a current photo of that trophy with ALL names?
Any Ideas . . . Anyone?
Regards,
Glenn

I have no idea, but I bet if you went to IMPBA.net you might get someone there to get it for you.

Wow- was fun to come across this thread when- out of a sense of nostalgia and boredom at work (!!!) I googled the term Crapshooter Hydro... I've been out of boats for years, but keep wanting to get back into them- I was in the Navy- stationed in Bermuda 1974-1977, and a friend of mine & I started racing R/C boats right off the base on the channel that ran in front of the base there... we had the first R/C boats there, we had Crapshooters, he had a glass Vee hull, can't remember which one- I also had an Octura Wing Ding... I loved the outriggers, still do-
WHAT THE HECK HAS HAPPENED TO THEM?? Seems like they've gone away- I don't understand why???
I understand they're still racing R/C boats there- same place we started it nearly 40 years ago.

Welcome to the site. Outriggers are still big and now growing very fast once again. I've got 3 on the bench right now and am looking at a 4th one as soon as it comes out. Ones like the Crapshooter's and Road Runners are in high demand and have a waiting list as only so many are made a year.
There are lots of places in Florida that still hold races and clubs that I know have been around for 30+ years. The Orlando Culvert Dodgers just held a big event around a month or so ago.

Sometimes it depends on what size that you're looking for as some people only offer .21's and .45's while most will carry anything from .21's to twins or gas. I myself am working on two .12's and a .21 right now from kits.

It is a new class that has become popular in the past couple years. Not many places racing that class but some people have started playing with them. Rod Geraghty, Zaker, Jr, Truex have designed a new inexpensive boat that is being kitted so there will be a lot of them in the near future. Might be the best thing that has happened to Nitro in MANY years. They just came out with their .21 version and are working on larger ones. Kit costs $75+/- so it is a GREAT way to get started in Nitro, or even for the advanced boaters to have a super competitive boat.

I am just finishing up a new version .21 boat that I will race this year that is all Carbon and is super light. In the paint shop now.

Glen:

Believe it or not, the top .21's are racing at 80mph+. Just a few guys at this point, but with the new kit, there will be more.

When it is painted and assembled.... I am going the extra mile and having all the aluminum parts black anodized. Want it to look REALLY good.

Glen:

Can you imagine the large bore boats. Getting too fast for old farts with anything bigger than the .21.

I saw some videos of ELECTRIC hydros that were unbelievable FAST, turned on a dime and accelleration was instant! They appeared very stable and light.
That must be due to the new battery technology?

Smokin, go over to http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9026180/tm.htm . One of mine done on page 14. Still thrashin' on the second one and also on the .21 version.
Marty and Glen, I'm no sring chicken either. I was on my way to converting to gas but these little suckers drew me back to nitro.
Next up got me is the gas version. Hall, Geraghty and now Zuber but I don't know about Truex are working on the prototype of that. Zaker's not much of a gas burner plus it's kinda frozen over up in Illinois right now.

Nitro, did you say nitro?
This is my recreated Cupit & Cunningham 1965 AA/Fuel Dragster cackling recently on 90% nitro. (9% methanol, 1% nitrobenzene)

Glenn, I was waiting for a meltdown, that's a lot of time on those engines! Totally bad-ass though. I've only made a few passes myself in my `74 `Cuda in my younger days. Back then I spent almost every Saturday at the local 1320.

... Half Moon Bay Drag Strip, just south of California... 1967/68!
I used to run my Triumph 650 Bonneville TT Special there...

So has there been a thread started on the JAE .21??? I couldn't find one... it's got my interest piqued in getting back into it, especially since I see there's an active club up in Elmira, NY- where my wife & I are planning on retiring to next year!

Sorry, I didn't intend to get off-thread. <grin>

Yeah, we do get OT once in a while. I got to wandering while in You Tube watching some of the cars from my youth. Was that the Stone, Woods and Cook car in the background? I never got to see Fuel Altereds or the old Gassers. A lot of the racers used to tour which you don't see any more. Met Garlits and Jenkins and watched a truck driver with his hot rod when he was just starting named Force. I worked security at the old Popular Hot Rodding Magazine Championships up here at US-131 (Martin) Dragway.

OK, back to these floaty things............
