Default Where to run "GAS" Boats in Los Angeles / Orange County

Hello...I just bought a 51" Deep Vee and would like to find out where I can operate it. Lake Castaic? I see that Legg Lake in Whittier is off-limits...

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Is Legg Lake only for nitro boats? Or can you run big gas boats? I thought they want you have insurance too or something?

There is an organization called North American Model Boat Association - NAMBA - that the competition racers in CA join. The insurance coverage is furnished by NAMBA. Find some of the local clubs that run at Legg lake and join the club and NAMBA.

Thanks...

I found a place...quiet. No signs.

I will check out Legg Lake. I went there years ago when I built a Hot Shot 35. The guys seem a little on the serious side and I did'nt feel too welcome as a newbie.

Mux.

Legg Lake runs electric for sure, and maybe nitro. Don't know about gas. Might have a restriction against gas boats due to pollution from oil/gas.

Castaic used to be OK but the lake has been closed to the public due to state budget problems.

Pyramid Lake might still be an option. Check out Cerritos, there is a lake there that runs electric, might be able to run gas I don't know.

There is always the marinas down at the harbor too.

Where do you run? Castaic is going to be open longer. They just got some money. Are you talking about running in the upper or lower lake?

Do you run GAS boats? I'm looking for local folks to go run with...

Castaic is going to stay open? That's good news!

I run electric at Lake Balboa in the park in Van Nuys.

Are you talking about lower or the large lake above (Castaic) for running "GAS" boats? Thanks...

I am not positive, but I believe it is the upper, large lake on the same side as where the jet skis launch which is opposite the lake where the fullsize trailer boats launch.

Cool deal! Looking forward to the pics. Is the pond near Balboa Park? I love that place, it is just an amazing park to spend an afternoon walking around in plus the Aerospace and Automotive museums there. If it has a r/c pond nearby that would be the icing on the cake!

Where can you run electric or nitro boats in the LA area? The NAMBA website wasn't very useful in specifying...

Of course not...they don't want play boaters clogging their ponds. IN CA water is fighting material...LOL

I got a nice place to run. Anyone interested Email me. We can make a day of it. Sunday is the day, no one there really.

Water is glassy. No wakes unless I have my boat out there LOL.

Again, I too have not been there in a while, but we used to run at Prado Park, near Prado Dam, south end of Chino. The shoreline used to be littereed with glow plugs. The park Rangers required you to be a member of an insured group before putting the boat into the water no matter how fast or slow you were.

I've seen a lot about insurance requirements, but don't fully understand them. Whats the skinny on insurance and rc boating?

Probably so you can pay if you wipe out someone else's pride and joy. It probably weeds out the riff-raft to and lays way for the more professionaly minded peope. Just a thought.

I am hell bent on tearing up the pond by my house till I get kicked out.
