Default Help with electrics

hi all I am new here and new to RC boats, I have spent the last few days making a small wooden boat, I am now struggling with understand the electrics and what is compatible, can anyone help. I no idea where to start!

Conventionally, a boat that size should be able to carry a 6 cell buggy pack (7.2 volts), a stock (ie nothing fancy) 540 motor for about that voltage and a 15 or 20 Amp ESC plus a radio to control it. Modern 2.4GHz outfits are readily available, and while a lot of them have more channels than you will need (2) you don't need to use them all. You will need a servo to work the rudder, as well.
