Default Miss geico 24 - Slow and intermittant connectivity? Help

I have a miss geico 24 inch not the LIPO version which is 29 inch.

I have two problems. One intermittent connectivity with the throttle. I have a Spektrum MR200 receiver and a Spektrum DX4S transmitter. I thought this would fix the problem. I was wrong. The antenna is up the antenna tube and the other is on the top lip of the opening on the boat. Should work great?
The second is it is way slow and I just need it to be a lil faster with more power. This is my retrieval boat.

Any help is appreciated.

Here is how slow it is:

I donít need it to be this fast but anything would better then where it is now:

I have a speedpack 2100 mah NI-MH battery. I also have a 5100 too that is brand new.

It might be nothing to do with the radio. If the battery is unable to supply the full current demanded, it might brown-out, dropping the voltage to the point where the ESC gets cautious, switches off, thinks about it, allows the battery to recover, and comes back on line. Repeat until bored.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBa7wrigf74 shows one with a Lipo in. It does go faster, but the ride attitude looks wrong. A larger, heavier, battery will just make matters worse.
