Default New Building Techique!!!!

I was reading car action the other day and they had an artcile about using lost-wax.

1. what is lost-wax and where can i get?
2. i was wondering if you can use this techique and making a fiberglass hull(carve it out of wax then applying your fiberglass over it, securing it with pins or what not.)?

Tell me what you think. It would be helpful.

Lost wax is not a type of wax. It is a method of casting. Most jewelry is cast with the "lost wax" method. Basically you carve your piece out of the wax, mount it inside a flask and fill with investment. (similar to plaster of paris) Then it is placed in a furnace and the wax is melted/burned out leaving a mold in which you pour your metal/gold. The investment/mold is immersed in water an dissolved leaving only your piece of gold jewelry. The wax and mold are all "lost".

John Vanderheiden carves his hulls from pink insulation foam, and then fiberglasses over the form to get his hulls.
This is a one off method, and it would require additional steps to make more than one hull after the master is finished.

Have a look at his website.
