Default rudder placement

Hi, Three Questions:Why on some deep v boats the rudder is offset to the right? Is this for right turn racing? Will it effect left turn? I'm building a 29" electro-vee. Thanks, Jerry

Default RE: rudder placement

Jerry,
The rudder is only off-set to the right on oval racing boats. It is there because the boat leans in to the turn and placing it anywhere else would require it to be longer to be effective. Longer = more drag when the boat is not turning.
For offshore racing, the rudder is placed in the center of the hull. This qives equal turning both ways. (almost equal as prop torque still turns the boat a bit)
On a hydro, the rudder can be anywhere as the hull does not lean when the boat turns.

Hi, Peter, That helps a lot. I'm not going to race it, just fool around on a lake. So i'll install it in the center. Thanks a lot. Jerry
