Default Looking for the best RTR Electric Boat..

Guys,

I was interested in the Villain EX. I've always thought highly of Traxxas. The Villain EX seems to be a top performer? Can anyone comment or offer any other ideas?

In looking around for myself and friends it appears that the Traxxas Villian EX is a great boat. In the $250-$300 dollar range for an RTR boat it appears that there are lots of choices. A couple popular choices I have seen are the [link=http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/MainPage.htm]CEN Aqua Jet Special Turbo Version at Offshore[/link] and the Traxxas Villian EX. My conclusions between the two based on limited resources is the Villian EX is more stable in rough water and the Aqua Jet is faster and more upgradeable. The Aqua Jet uses one motor and prop where the Villain uses two. I personally just purchased a [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBTE6**&P=ML]Hobbico Aquacraft Hammer EP[/link]. I chose it because it uses just one battery, one motor and one prop, and was inexpensive ($130 RTR). So far its really fun but not as fast as I would eventually like it to be. You get what you pay for pretty much. I would suggest looking around and reading to see what problems and successes people have with different boats. I would suggest looking at upgrade potential as well if your interested in that. Good luck.

When you say that its a TOP PREFORMER , are you referring to speed , or handling abilities or both ?

Here , also , is a tought question , but .... pending on how deep your pockets are , as to how fast and how well the boat handles .
If you want something to kick around with ... then by all means , EP is the way to go .
If your thinking more on the terms of upgrades , larger in size , faster , and more challenging , then gas would be the way . ( not nitro , although they ARE a blast , but a bit more costly in the long run . )
Another thing to consider , is - do you have a place to run ( where its not against some ordinace or law ) a gasser or a nitro ? There are a LOT of folks who complain about the "noise" ( I use that term lightly , cause to me they are not loud , although I , too , have had folks complain ( but more seem to enjoy when I run , than the few complainers . )
Is you do , then , of course , EP is your only choice .
Size of the pond/lake is another deciding factor .
Now , for upgrades on the one you suggested , you will be extremely limited .
