What is the pupose of applying fiberglass to the top of a wooden model?

The reason to fiberglass a wooden boat is to seal off the wood from water. The fiberglass also strengthen the wooden hull. If applied correctly, fiberglass can be invisable when put over a wood hull.

reasion you SHOULD do the glass over the boat is cuz of just pure strength. your wood will never split or crack due to hot or cold temps over hte years. the glass makes them strong and gives a perfict smoth finish. i accually have ONLY heard of Glassing the entire boat AND NOT the deck. now if you want a waterprof boat with a perfict seamless, edgeless, shinny boat then you must glass the ENTIER THING. sides back bottem TOP all of it. i am still working on mine but i can tell you the product is more than worth it. just a proffessional look if you ask me!
