im almost finished with my boat. I tried to start it today but it wouldnt start. It kicked over for about 5 seconds but when i took the throttle off it died. I think it may be flooded and im gonna wait.

But if it doesnt, what do you think is wrong? The muffeler was of the engine at one time during the spring. The inside of the engine was exposed for about a week.


any suggesions will deffienetaly help.

I am not very experienced with gasoline engines but you might want to try rasing your idle speed or richening up the carb a little.

Check your needle settings. Both of them should be at around 1-1/2 turns out. It could be a lot of other things fuel related; bad gas, water in the gas or varnishing, a clogged filter or a bad diaphram in the pump.

after about ten pulls of the cord, the engine is flooded and cant be started

i probably want to let les gas into the engine.

should i move the pins in or out to adjust

Take them fully in then bring them out 1-1/2 turns each.

Its best to start with the carb, pull it apart and clean the fine mesh filter inside, I find it at times causes the engine not to fire, plus check the needles and spark plug. Try not to flood if it doesnt start, if you do kick it over a few times to get rid of the excess fuel, then try starting it again. There are lots of things to check so start with one and work your way around.....

i got the engine to start

i took the feed feul line out and pumped out all the gas in the carb

then it started to kick over and gurgeled for about a minute

then it stared goin strong, its going to be a good boat
