Hi I am totaly new to the RC boat thing but have been doing Nitro cars and monster trucks for years. So my Question is what would you recomend for a first tine builder. For an easy build. I have been quit interested in the Dumas 1949 Chris-Craft 19' Runabout Kit, but am worried it will be to much for a first. I was reading a guys build on it and got a little lost when he started fiberglassing the whole thing. What would you guys suggest?

First question is what do you want to do with it? Do you want something nice to look at that will putt putt around the lake, do you want speed, something that will only run on protected water, or an open lake. Lots of choices.

It's been a long time since I built a Dumas scale boat. If you've built some things in the past and are a careful, patient builder, I say go for it. If you want to gain some experience first, choose something less expensive to build some skills with boats. The SK-Daddle boats are inexpensive, easy to build, and could be built with an electric motor (I assume you would be building the Chris Craft with electric power rather than glow). Choosing one of these would help you become familiar with setting up the R/C and driveline equipment in boats.

How do you fiberglass the hull Start on the top and wrap it around to the bottom or star on the bottom and wrap it over the top. Or do you do the bottom then overlap the bottom with the top?

If you want someting slow and on the scale side, there is one boat that is pre-built with lots of details. The Aquacraft Booth Bay Lobster boat is loaded with running lights and a lot of detail for the price. We looked at one at the Toledo Expo and my son who is more into fast boats said that even he would like one of those. The price is very reasonable on it.
