Default what gives with speed props

why does a boat prop look like a pitch 6 and yet labled a pitch of say 1.4 as compaired to an airplane prop email me ASAAP please

Most boat prop pitch numbers are given as a ratio. For instance if a prop is 70mm X 1.4 just multiply them to come up with the pitch in MM, then divide by 25.4.

Example
Propshop 7016 prop is 70mm diameter and the pitch ratio is 1.6
70X1.6 = 112mm
112/25.4 = 4.41" of pitch

Thanks for the informtion, that lokks more like the real pitch as opossed to an air prop
