Default Large Scale Ship Models: Cargo Ships, Liners & Warships

Am interested in knowing who has built, or would be interested in building, large scale ship models, either warships, cargo ships or ocean liners from 1/96 to 1/48. We're not talking PT or small tub boats here, but BIG ship models that would typically require a truck or trailer to haul around.

If so, post what you have built, plan to build or would like to see as a future model. Be sure to indicate scale & interest in either in semi or complete kit form, as well as RTR.

Actually my question was to see what interest there is for large scale model ships, both in civil & warship form.

Our club regularly sails 8 foot ships, and will be launching some 1/72nd scale battleships next year.

My initial reply before seeing his gallery. Nice collection can be seen there.

These are meant for BB firing model ships made of balsa, but some of us aren't allowed to play with such a cool hobby due to local restrictions. []

First and foremost, is discovering what combat group is closest to you.
Lot's of people say, "Join MY group...", however, it doesn't necessarily do you, the recruit, any service, if someone signs you up to a combat group(and rules) that is clear across country.

If you want Large Scale ships, I guess, 1/72nd would be the ticket. But we would start recommend you start out in a two or three gun destroyer. If there is a club closer to you, most likely 1/144, they typically recommend a cruiser. Building your own ship is usually best. I have seen many people buy a ship to get into the hobby not fully understanding how to keep the ship running. This typically leads to break downs, and sometimes to such a devastating experience on the pond, that some rookies never fight again.

Take some time to look up Combat model warship clubs on the internet. There is a partial club list pinned in the combat warship section of RCuniverse's boat section.
Don't be afraid to contact these clubs and attend one of their events.
I think our closest associate members are way over in San Jose, CA
Be prepared to gather and recruit your friends, as I don't recall to many active combat warships in Arizona.

Yup, sure is!

Umi_Ryuzuki: Can you post some information on the weapons these ships use? Do you guys modify BB guns or airsoft gun, or is it all from scratch?

EDIT: Read the newbie thread in the Warships forum, so I see there are kits out there.

By the way, thanks for the pictures - it looks like it is a ton of fun!
