Default Firing up the Cheddar Pintail Vertical

Hi

I have the above steam engine mounted on the Krick Anna boat with a Cheddar Butane container mounted. I would like to seek advise on firing up the boiler as the instruction is unclear.

Do i light it via the vertical chimney or at the nozzel where the gas tank is connected to the boiler.

Pls help

You light it as close to the burner as possible. Lighting it at the stack is not wise unless you want a nice WHOOSH.

Hi there

many thanks for the quick reply, the manual says light at the chimmney, I'm not sure what you mean by stack, but each time I light it via the nozzle, I get a nasty whoosh.

I would be brilliant if you could clarify.

Many thanks in advance, I a newbie in live steam.

Stack/ chimmney same thing. the terms are interchangable. If the manual says to light it at the chimmney, then go by what it says. Sometimes lighting it by chimmney lets a buildup of gas occur causing the whoosh part. I have always lit my burners at the burner. I lite the lighter and then turn on the gas.

Thanks again, green boat. I will try, still having phobia from the last try. Would the butane container catch fire and cause explosion - my single biggest worry. boy oh boy.

The hole in the gas orfice in the burner is small enough that even if the gas pressure dropped, the flame would not travel back into the gas line. I could get technical with pressure drops and cooling effects at orfices but no real need to here.
