can you take a toy boat from toysrus or walmart and put hobby grade motor and electricks in it. how much do electrics and a motor cost for the cheap stuff.

You can but imo it's a waste of monye, unless you have things like a hobby grade radio laying aroud and/or a car motor. Also the hulls tend to be meant to go slow and handle and perform poorly no matter what you do.
Let's see cheap setup
540 car motor decent $30
radio $60
esc $30-50
hardware $50 or less if you can make some things yourself.
but just my opinion, I'd save up for a decent rtr boat. 200$-300$
some people here do it, maybe they'll stumble in here.
It wont be easier than building a hobby grade boat, you still have to epoxy and glue and solder stuff, plus you usually end up seriously modifying something, like removing a huge skeg off the bottom.
Probably a zig zag, reef racer or the proboat mini vee would be a good alternative for not much money. 60-80$ US They can be upgraded easier too.
