Not that you won't get good advice here, it's just that with most of the people here not being familiar with where to shop in the UK, good advice will be sort of 'slim'. Most of the people on the above forum live a bit closer to you than we/I do.

It really depends on what you need --for some projects I use cordless screwdrivers -- Current projrct is a sidewheel steamboat using 2 DeWalt cordless drill drives. These can be found at junk dealers and garage sales for a very good price and usally they need only batteries or brushes to make them functional. just remove the drive components from the cases some have motors and gearboxes are built together some have gearbox made into case. They are cheap enough to experiment with
