Hi Jonjoe,
The texts says it all; 7,2V NiCad 1200mAh packs only.
6 cell NiMH might be possible, but you'd have to know the peaking setting, usually, the NiCad setting will tend to overheat NiMH.
The 12V input is too low to charge 8 cell packs (9,6V)
Generally speaking it's an outdated charger.
Regards, Jan.

I would bet that it would not charge 9.6V packs. Also 12V in is not too low to charge 9.6V batts for a decent charger. My $99 swallow will charge 3 cell li-po's (11.1V) off a 12V input. My recommendation is to save up a bit more and get a decent digital charger. They are well worth the money. I recommend the swallow.
