Algee removal from pond.
Hi guys.
The pond for our boats at my local club has been infested with algee. [:@]
The pond was fine until we wanted to raise the water level, by pumping water from a nearby stream.........but in that stream, there aparently was alot of nutriants from the farmalnd around, and now the pond is full of algee growth.......and it is impossible to use it
Have you got any ideas to get rid of it ?
Here is a picture of our facility when it was brand new, and algee free:

http://www.focuspools.com/products/Omni/Algaecides-ALGAE-KILL-II(COPPER-BASE).asp worked for my friend but its a pool not a pond. So something like this? Note - This will kill everything. So if you have some stuff int he pond that you wanna save, forget it.

I did a quick search and found this: http://www.algae-solution.com/?gclid...FQRuZQodNA1HLw .
Search for Algaecides and you'll find plenty of sites.

RE: Algee removal from pond.
Copper sulfate works well. The pond where I run my boat gets a lot of runoff from farm fields and lawns. I bought a gallon of stuff at my local home improvement mega store that is mostly a copper sulfate solution. You'll get what you pay for here. The stuff that I bought was $36/gallon. One gallon did wonders for controlling the filamentatious algae that was taking over the pond (and winding around my prop). I eventually added a second gallon after some algae started growing again. The stuff isn't supposed to kill fish or other critters that live in the water, and it hasn't. This pond is a few acres in area.

I would second the copper sulfate suggestion, it worked in my parents little pond.
I also agree thats one sweet rc club setup you got there. Looks like it something for everyone, boats, on road cars, off road cars, and airplanes. Very nice.

One thing that will also help is airation, get some kind of large fountain in the middle even if you shut it down when the pond is in use. this might cut down on the amount of algacide you need to add.

SJN,
Were you able to kill the algae in your pond? If yes, what did you end up doing? I kinda have the same problem with my pond.
Thanks.

No, a biologist said to leave it over the winter, and it would die itself.
Unfortunatly, the winter was quite mild, and there is still algee there........but enough has died to make the pond fairly usable.
Too many chef`s in the kitchen at the moment, makes it difficult to make a final decision to solve the problem

RE: Algee removal from pond.
I might be able to help a little on this one. I am a farmer who uses my irrigation reservoirs to run rc boats. We have to keep them clear of algae anyway because we have filtration systems that are feeding drip lines. We normally use copper sulfate that we get from a local farm chemical supplier. It will smoke the algae and it will also smoke the fish. We normally don't have any fish to begin with in these ponds. Maybe it is stronger than the formulation that someone mentioned earlier, or maybe we just use more. I know that there are some other fish friendly products out there now. They are probably more expensive and less effective as that is the way these things go. Many golf courses use these now as they are trying to avoid the nuisance of dead fish in their water.
