Default Scratch Built Tugboat in the pond.

First post in a very long time on RCU, I havent been a member for some 3 years since I got out of the hobby a while back. I recently was thrust back into the hobby with the aquisition of a Scratch Built tugboat my grandfather left to me when he passed away last year.

From what I know of the boat, he bought the hull (looks like pvc or abs) by itself at the WRAM show a few years ago and decided to model the boat after a Tugboat picture he found in an old magazine.

All the decking/gunwells/pilothouse/masts/stacks are handmade out hardwood and hand painted. He installed 2x 12v motor/redgear sets and an OLD Motor Control Devices Speed controller.

What I had to do to get it sea-worthy:

Remove the motor/red-gear sets.
Remove the radio components.
Re-wire EVERYTHING and replace the radio with one I had laying around.
Seal the hull with some clear silicone along the keel where he installed a hardwood spine.
And get a new 12v sealed battery.

That was it and then I took it down to the pond for some sea trials (after a short test run in my neighbor's pool).

Anyway here are some pics I snapped with my iphone before shutting down yesterday. I will post more when I get home tonight (interior/exterior).

She is about 4ft long, I had to add loads of gravel to the keal for ballast because she was riding so high in the water. I will post more pics tonight when I get home.

Ya might wanna replace that gravel with lead shot or something similar because of the density, lead shot's heavier.
