260PUM Idle
I put in a new 260PUM motor into my boat but having a difficult time with the idle. When the motor starts, the idle is low and even when throttling the idle remains low. If I let off the throttle, the engine dies. Is the idle set too low? I haven't made any adjustments and engine only has 1/4 tank of fuel since starting. What's the deal with the choke? Is turning it up right for initial starting?

RE: 260PUM Idle
The engine will not idle too slow. If you run a clutch it seems to help bring it down a tad.
Remove the idle screw on the spring side of the carb & toss it in the trash.
Adjust the idle speed with the trim on the radio
When you press the trigger forward (brake for pistols) it should close the carb & kill the engine
For running, if its a 257 carb, a good starting point for the needles are 1 H - 2 L. While actually out on the water, remember Rich Runs, Lean Dies.
