The Lap Cat II was and is still a good old Tunnel to have fun with (not competitive for racing, your boat should have a turn fin mounted somewhere under the hull, that is to compensate for flaw in the hull design) and the K&B 7.5 are tough and reliable engines. the 8702 is a bit more recent (still old) as K&B made the 8701, 8702 and 8703. They also made them in the semi-pro and pro version.
There are still a good number of people that use that engine for racing with some modification, some replace the lower unit with one that is more streamlined and and gives better performance, They also add a tune pipe etc....
Yours sounds great and seems to be performing very well.

thank you Dan S. so you think its running good. i do have the turn fin and bent it 3/4 an inch from the mounting surface. and the centerline of the prop is 1/8 an inch above the bottom.

An HTB Tunnel Hull would be 100 times better than the Lap Cat and the Dumas Hot Shot, I used to have the Hot Shot 45, they were good for their time but now is outdated.
