Default Folding Boat Stand - easy to build

While waiting for my Nirvanna sailboat to arrive, I created a work stand for it that folds flat for travel. All except for the cutouts for the hull and I needed the boat to m ake a template for the cutouts. This stand would work for any type of boat, sail or power. If you've been to this post before, you will see a new stand made with nicer B/C plywood.

I made from a single quarter sheet of 3/8" B/C plywood which you can buy if you don't need a full sheet for other projects. The other lumber you'll need is about 10' of 1x4 or 6' of 1x8 spruce or clear pine and some hinges, so it's not expensive at al to buildl. Click on the link below to get the construction plans. You'll have to create your own templates for the cutouts where the hull fits into the ends. Just cut them a little oversize so you can glue in some foam to protect the hull paint.

The shelf below is hinged in the middle and to the ends of the stand. That's what allows the stand to fold up. I made the shelf with a cutout in the middle and placed it high enough so that the keel would stick thgough the hole to keep the boat from tipping over in a wind. I don't think normal winds will cause the stand to tip over.
