Well I just got back from the hobby shop and I am still suffering from sticker shock 1/8" X 12" X 48" aircraft ply is $42... that is freakin' ridiculous! And it was all warped t'boot! I guess I'll start using the crappy home center ply, sheez. Anyone have a good source for wood with reasonable shipping?

I can buy a sheet 30X60X1/8 for $58, so why spend $42 on a piece that's less than one third the area? I get my ply from B&D International in Tacoma WA. It's aircraft grade Finnish Birch made for home built aircraft and I've never seen a bad piece. If you're interested, their website is www.bd-international.com

I went to 5 different Kitchen Cabinet shops.
Found 1 Hell of a great guy. He gets me 1/8" plywood, Rubber Wood, 1 side is AA other is B, 4' X 8' for 16 bucks. Lets me cut it into smaller pieces to fit in my car. Helps me in any wood problem I come up against.
Coffee and Bagles & or buttered rools.
.........Life is good.

If you have read another plywood post I made on WARPED PLYWOOD, You may think I am inconsistant about different type & grain direction in plywood.
Key is IF you cut & use the flat new sheet in a day or 2. OR, you can use a warped sheet BETTER, if the curve is HELPING you do a curve with the good side out.

So much to learn in building models from scratch.

I've bought from Aircraft Spruce before and it is cheaper to buy a half sheet 24"x48" or full sheet 48"x48" than to buy those 12"x48" pieces from other places.I also bought Okoume marine plywood from Harbor Sales http://www.harborsales.net/fullsheet...ls#productview It comes in a 4'x8' or 5'x10' sheet and they will cut it to ship.A little over $53.00 a sheet for 4'x8'.It comes in 3mm and up.The 4mm is about 1/8" thick

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the info. I'll check all the vendor's links for pricing and shipping. Looks like I am not the only one disatisfied with the LHS.

I've always got my wood from [link=http://www.lonestar-balsa.com]Lonestar Balsa[/link].. Great thing is, they are now back in business... Their buildings went up in flames last year..
