Default wood boat paint help

i want to oil my wood boat then paint it with some sort of clear paint. what type of clear paint will look good work with the oiled body and seal up small cracks?

I don't think you can put anything over an oiled finish. Oil finish is a final finish by itself. It takes the place of varnishing in furniture making. If you try and put a varnish over an oil finish it won't ever dry right. You could go with an oil based stain, then oil based varnish if you like - or stay all water based stain and varnish, but oil based works better I think.

For boats, you need a sealed finish of some type, meaning varnish or epoxy.

Stain your boat and then look for a matching color of wood putty in the small cans and go with that. I think it can be varnished over without hurting it.

If your model is going to be glow powered, you'll have to use epoxy as a final finish.

If you have already oiled your boat, you'll have to probably take mineral spirits on a rag and keep turning the rag to try and lift most of it out and let it dry for a week. Then use a light stain and varnish.

i am yet to finnish building so i will most likely stain it then use a varnish because its an electric. thanks for the advice jetpack.
