Boats in Toledo
#1

There are other threads going on in other forums on this site but I'm trying to get one going here for those of us that are boat freaks. I spent a lot of my day driving back and forth from the big show and got some shots that my son got as he had the camera most of the day.
I was disappointed that he didn't get any of the Zippkit's booth as I spent some time there with one huge unexpected surprise, somebody bought me an Easy-Vee kit! I've got no idea who did this as I couldn't pry it out of Joe but a huge THANK YOU to whoever did this for me!
OK, not I'll try to upload some shots. If any of you have some, please feel free to add yours also except for that one goofy shot of me that someone took!
OK, briefly so far, here's what we have. The new Thunder Tiger boat. The new .18 marine engine from Aquacraft, note the roto type of starter instead of the usual pull-start. The new Aquacraft shovel-nose hydro that will go for the same street price as the Mini-Rio and should be on sale by the end of the month.
Most of the rest are shots of the boats in the competition. It's looks like Jack Kipfer has first place nailed again but trying to pick 2nd and 3rd places would be tough as the competition is getting better by the year. Lots of boats on display.
I do have some other shots of things like that huge rocket (and I mean huge!) but I'll save those for elsewhere.
In all, it's great going to the show as there are some people that I only get to meet there.

My buddy brought over his Thunder tiger last night . Nice boat, good paint and graphics. Very light cloth layup with some print thru , but will be fun to race with. Lookin forward to racing against him all summer. Gas vs. nitro , always a challenge.......

It didn't appear to be a bad boat for the price. I like the magnetic cowl latches, very strong. The prop could use some work as it wasn't very sharp aand I'd assume could use some balancing. The pipe might need some shortening too but see how it does first before going to town on tweaking it.
We didn't get any shots either of the IMEX booth but they had a lot of boats there from pool racers to gas Cat's and hydro's.
Check in with the thread pinned to the top of the pages in the forums as Mike, John and Ken took a lot of shots and videos.

Scott, mostly scale ships were represented. Joe Petro and his buddy whose name escapes me at the moment were there selling lots of hardware and kits. By Saturday afternoon they were tapped out of a lot of items.
Seeing Mark "ob nut" Scott there was a surprise. I ran into Mike and Ken but missed seeing John. I just hope that the don't post that picture they took of me!
I got a haircut Friday so I probably had a case of hat-head.

Ron, it was a shock to see you and Eric there.. Quite a surprise for sure.. Didn't think I'd run into anyone I know.
To see what the shows has dwindled down to (last time I was there was back in the late 80's) was a hugh letdown. Last time I was there, there was a small pond "pool" setup to run the electric boats that were just coming out. Now, hardly any boat equipement.. For that matter, there were no cars/trucks/support this time around. I don't count IMEX for this.. Seeing the Conley motor in action was neat. Doubt I'll spend my time going back up in the future.. I just had a PM with Dreamin' Hemi and he's thinking about getting a table or booth for next years show. Tom Borisch was thinking about bringing his huge Class One Cat's but didn't make it this year. Mark Sholund did the show once upstairs and did a good business. With all of the boats in the show competition it shows there is a market for boaters. I met up woth a lot of guys from IMPBA D-1, 2, and 14 so I know that the boaters are there but need something to buy. If you were into the scale ships there were 3 booths in a row but other than Joe and IMEX (I won't go into them either), about the only thing that boaters can buy were things that we share with the other segments of R/C that we all can use. Sure, lots of servos, battery packs and things from Du-Bro or Sullivan but disappointed this year as far as radio systems to get there, something that I was also looking for.
We've learned as boaters to take it as face value, it is a show for the plane people. Ifyou're into 4-wheelers then you'd really be disappointed as iHobby is a better show for them in the midwest.

Joe could have sold that super-sized Easy-Vee I don't know how many times while I was at the booth, it sure drew the attention!
Hat's off to Dan Kramer for getting 2nd place in the Competiton boat class, not an easy thing to do at Toledo. I first saw it at the swap meet/show in Fort Wayne, IN back in March.
