Default Mini Rio ???? feedback wanted

Hey Guys,
I am wanting to buy the mini rio for my 8 yr old boys. I think it would be perfect for them. It appears to be a kickass boat for the price. How long of a run time do you get with the supplied battery? Is it possible to fit a bigger battery in it? Is there any problems with them that I should know about? Are they a good reliable boat? If you have one I would appreciate any feedback you could give me.

Luc,
Thanks for the link. From reading that I think it will be a good choice, there does'nt seem to be anything else that can compare to it for the money. I want to get them something hobby grade and I did'nt want to spend alot of money. Hopefully they will catch on quick and next year I can get them something a little bigger and faster.

Good to see you over here too, this forum is alot more active.

I have one and its a fun boat. The only issue I have found is that when the battery starts to run a little down sometimes it cant get back on plane so you may have to give it a little help.

But there are other options if the $75 - $125 range, some mini and some not.

Darkshadow, Thanks.
After looking at some of those links I am now considering the Traxxas Blast. It takes 7.2 batts and I already have lots of them.

Is there room for a bigger battery in the mini rio. I can't seem to find anywhere what cell size they are. Just wondering if I could make a bigger mah battery.

O.K. I finally found the Mini Rio thread (I really suck with that search) and it seems like it will be perfect. I was doing some reading on the Traxxas Blast and it did not seem like a good buy. I don't need anymore headaches, I already have enough. I am looking for something that will give my kids lots of fun without the down time.
I ordered the Mini Rio's with 2 packs of spare rudders, and 2 packs of spare props. I figured that since it will be my kids running them I had better get some spares order now! Actually, they are probably safer in their hands then mine. LOL.

The ReefRacer2 runs just as fast or faster than the Rio, and can turn on a dime. Most important is RR2 is self right. MiniRio can be mod. to be a much faster boat, but if it flip for whatever the reason, it stay flipped while the RR2 can get back into the right position.
For small pond or pool, RR2 is better due to self right and very tight turning circle. But for larger pond, with modification, the Mini Rio is much better and much stable at higher speed after modifications.

There is no suitable NiCd or Nimh that can fit inside the MiniRio to make the run time longer (unless custom make), the closest battery to make it run much longer is go to ThunderPower's Lipo Pro-lite 2S/2000mah at 15C. This will boost you run time quite a bit and almost gurantee the boat to get on plane each time. Only draw back is you need to time your use each time you had a freah charge, make sure you don't discharge the battery too low, otherwise the battey will be damaged. This is because the ESC in the MiniRio do not have low voltage detect, and will discharge any battery connect to it just like a stock Nicd battery (which is 7.2v/1100mah).
