be prepared to invest about $1500+ less radio. there are a couple of guys who will build you an 8th scale real nice. about $750 for a finished wood hull if you ask around here, about $550 for fiberglass here or here. thats unpainted, unrigged, no engine, no hardware of any kind, no pipe, no prop.....
and plan on waiting 6 months if your lucky

there's a hell of a lot of experienced boaters in your neck of the woods. some of the fastest in the world for sure. check out any boat club in the Indy area. they'll steer you right. here's one for starters-

actually i live 4 blocks from the water front where they race them."home race pond"
i emailed the guy from the site you gave me and i will probably stop out at the water front the next time they are out there..
and get some info from some of the racers....
