Looking for advice on a beginner level electric speed boat (RTR) for a 9 year old. Will be used on a wide open lake. Can someone point me in the right direction? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

No question in my mind. The Aquacraft Mini Rio. Our club, the Indy Admirals, uses them as a one design club racer. They are outstanding and plenty fast that he/she will not get bored with it.

My Feedback: (1)

To me, it would depend on your child. I've seen some that can drive high-performance boats and others that I wouldn't let drive my Zig-Zag Racer.
My son started racing RC trucks at 6 (and winning) yet I wouldn't let him drive my good boats until he changed his mindset. His first race was at age 12 and got a 3rd place finish.
Today's kids are playing video games so they seem to develop hand-eye coordination. I'd start him off with a nice one that he won't get bored with in 5 minutes and see how he does from there.
