Hi,
I picked up a near mint condition Kyosho Lamborghini Cat C1 yesterday, paid $100 for the complete boat, radio (Futaba digital 2ch pistol), and a gallon of Byron 20% fuel, which I think was a pretty good deal. Owner knew nothing about the boat, got it form a friend.
Went through it and aside from some setup errors regarding linkage geometry and the fact that it appears that they never glued in the stuffing tube so it simply spun and elongated the hull exit hole, it's in perfect shape, I have a feeling that whoever bought it did not know how to set it up and probably got discouraged when it did not drive well due to setup and took on water through the stuffing tube hole.
Anyway, this is my fist nitro boat, and I would like to add a clutch to it. I know the GS21 in this boat is also used in some of the Kyosho trucks and buggies, so a clutch is definintely available, however it would have to be somehow adapted to accept the prop drive shaft.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how I could install a clutch? Point me to parts or previous threads? I could not find much. I understand that I will lose some performance with the clutch, and the motor will only receive cooling water when the prop is spinning, however that's fine with me because I am just a casual operator not looking for ballistic speed, and I only plan to idle the boat when launching and retrieving so cooling should not be an issue. I also have a small battery operated water pump that I could run off a small lipo to fix the idle cooling issue altogether.
Suggestions?
Here are some pics of the boat, and specifically the engine output shaft. The prop shaft and tube are removed right now but they would go i in
the hole in the white resin basin, obviously, and I can trim down both the shaft and tube for clearance if required.

Yeah Craigslist, I was shocked when I went to look at it, there were no pictures.
Now I'm wondering if I should put money into a clutch or convert this to a brushless setup. Don't think it's worth dumping money in this hull though.
Anyone know what the crank thread is on a TRX15 and the GS21MR? I can't find actual measurement specs on the GS21 anywhere, I think the TRX15 crank is 5mm. If I can adapt the Nitro Vee flywheel and clutch to the GS21 it looks like it would be simple and I could probably score parts for about $40 or less (flywheel, clutch bell, adapter nut and shoes).

Steve,
if you don't mind me asking,
why do you want to put a clutch?
if you want to be idling on the water, you are going to install an electric pump to keep the engine cooled,.......right?

Yeah I mentioned I have a small electric pump I was going to use to pump water if I did install a clutch.
I like having a clutch simple because I like being able to stop the boat in the water if I need to, also easier to retrieve the boat from the side of a dock if I can idle up to the dock instead of snagging it during a flyby......

there is no need to snag it during a fly by,
we all set our throttle so you can idle the boat up to shore and approx 5 or 6 feet before the shore we it the brakes to close the carb and shut the engine down.
