AM isn't the best for controlling the boat. Might be an area where you spend a few more $$ to have a better piece of mind.

It's a very basic setup for an electric boat. The ESC can't really handle much more than a ROAR stock motor and I have zero trust in a Futaba 3003 servo as I've had nothing but bad luck with them.
Futabe does have a nice FM radio system for $90.00 or spend about $25.00 more and get their basic 2.4 Gig outfit. Hi-tec makes an inexpensive 3-channel (most people only use 2) FM called the Aggressor FM that's also a great little radio for the money plus easy to set up.
A little info on what you're throwing together would help. Right now I'm assuming an electric boat of course seeing how you're looking at an ESC. If you're putting something like a Crackerbox or a stock brushed motor boat then what you picked out could do.
