Not really. It's a nice radio, but you can find similar quality or even better radios for cheaper. I believe Tower makes a very cheap 2.4ghz radio. It doesn't look quite as smooth as a Futaba, but more product for even less money? [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWPW0&P=7]Here[/link] it is. I own the Futaba radio you linked, and it's actually a pretty nice radio, just saying there's better deals out there.

Keep in mind the Tower one does not include servos, also 2.4 systems are not interchangeable, meaning a Futaba receiver will not work with a tower transmitter, you are stuck with that companies products, servos are pretty much interchangeable, just a couple of different kinds of plugs.
That is a pretty basic radio, it does not come with as many features as more expensive ones, such as exponential, dual rates, servo end point adjustment which can make set up and driving much easier.
I had great luck with the AM Futaba radios for years, still have a Magnum Sport FP-T2PB that works perfectly. After much searching and comparing, I thought for my needs a Spektrum Dx2s fit perfectly. This is my first season with it, use it in cars and boats, absolutely love it!
About twice the cost of the systems your looking at but I really liked the different receiver options available.
I use the telemetry receiver just for setting things up, being able to monitor temperature and rpm is a damn fine tuning aid! I know it has saved me more money than it cost me. I monitor the cylinder head temps on nitro boats, ecs on my electrics. Tried it in my buggy before the water turned soft, been running it for years without a change. I was suprised when the temp alarm came on, Had absolutely no idea that motor ran as hot as it did! Pulled the brushes out and replaced them, temps all good now!
I hope I'm still using this radio in 20 years, that old Futaba I have owes me absolutely nothing, think it's 22 years old! Got it when the first Associated RC10 gold tubs were released! yes still have that car, its a shelf queen now for the most part.
LOL I still have my first boat hull too! A dumas Deep Vee 20, bought that the summer I was 14, saved my ass off for it! Worst mistake of my life! Look at me now! I blame the hobby shop owner! Probably would have been cheaper if I got hooked on drugs!
Good to see you're looking to buy from a North American retailer! Much better chance of service and support that way! Probably get an instruction manual you can read! Some of the manuals from the overseas suppliers you need a newly landed migrant to convert it to something you can understand!
I also find it pretty sad when somebody has to decide to eat the cost of a product that doesn't work out of the package because the retailer will not cover the cost of return shipping for a replacement! And the shipping is more than the product is worth! Cause it is going half way round the planet! LOL 2 weeks to get it, 2 weeks to return it, two weeks for the replacement to arrive! 6 weeks of no playtime just to save a few bucks! (yes I'm jaded, damn junk HK esc! never once worked, ever! At least I salvaged the cooling plate and connectors!)
In this hobby for the most part you really do get what you paid for, been at it for 28? years now! Tried cheap but the frustration is not worth it! Not saying I am a sucker who always buys the most expensive but I really do shop and ask questions on these forums! Best thing that has ever happened to this hobby.
There are hundreds of examples on here of people who asked questions, thought they new better then either quit the hobby or spent their money twice to get where they should have been in the first place!
Good luck, do your research buy the best you can afford and enjoy one of the most fun hobbies around for the rest of your life! Keep asking questions!
