Default Lawless Flex Shafts

Hey guys, when I put the first flex shaft in I put a little grease on it. It had a total run time of around 15 mins on it. I went to run it today and before I started it I put a little oil in the lube hole to make sure it was lubed. I put the boat in the water and as soon as I went to take off the rpms shot up and the shaft broke. Why would it break that soon and what are the secrets to getting them to last a long time? Do you guys use grease or just oil? Thanks.

Pull out the drive after every days running, wipe it down and lube it. I use a marine grease I got from a local auto parts store. Some guys use a mix of oil and grease, I find it slings off easier and makes a bigger mess in the hull. I leave my cable out until the next time running. Kinda forces me to go over the boat before I run it again.
