I amnew to RC Boating. In fact I have never owned a model of any type that would not be considered a toy. I have been to RC Airshows and saw that the radio range of those were quite substantial. On the other hand I have seen toy trucks that get out of radio range after 100 feet or so. I am looking to build a bait boat of sorts to carry a baited hook out past the surf. I plan on using a trolling motor as power and the hull will basically be sealed PVC pipe. Sorta like a pontoon boat. I want to have a box on top of this with a hatch to release the baited hook. Basically I need to know about what range can I expect to get out before I lose control. I need to at least get out 200 yards. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your help. Stinkingdog101

On open water with no power lines or other RF any hobby grade FM radio will work for you. If your dead set on getting the best go with a Futaba Fasst system.
Whatever you choose it looks like you will need at least a 3 channel radio.
