I want to build up a cat with turbine engines but other than the spm5's from jetcat there doesn't seem to be "Marine tubines" available even though I have seen wren motors in them.
What do I look for in regards to a turbine for a 40-45 inch cat hull? Id like to only use one to keep the overall cost down a bit but two smaller ones would be great.

Sorry, but I had to do a little snicker when you said that you'd like to keep costs down as turbines aren't cheap! A buddy bought 2 of them for his Cat and they were $4,500.00 each but with gearboxes.
Not knowing a whole lot about turbine boats you might want to go a little longer as I haven't seen any turbine powered boat that small and anything near that size would only need one turbine.
Try www.aeromarinerc.com as I know that they were working on one turbine Cat, it should be somewhere on their site.

I believe that Wren Turbines is one of the suppliers of turbines for
large scale catamarans...

The other would be AMT http://www.amtjets.com/index.php
But I don't see any gear boxes like the helicopter and turbo prop transmissions at Wren.

@ Ron
I would have snickerd as well reading that but I know this project will be expensive. I have also only seen very large boats being used as turbine boats, but I figure if they can get a turbine to work in a heli where there is less space, cant I use a smaller hull?

I guess that you could. I went into the links last night that Umi posted and saw turbines placed in a lot of things. Getting one the right size would be the key. The only two people that I really know of in the US that do turbine boats aren't members of this site, Peter Mueller and Tom Borisch. The Europeans have been building turbine boats a lot longer than we on this side of the Big Pond.

There is the Kolibri turbine, but you will have to build up your own gear box....

It would seem like the manufacturers would be able to give you an idea of how big or small of a turbine that you'd need to push a Cat as there should be some kind of a formula to go by.
I've seen a couple of turbine scale boats of Peter Mueller's at the Toledo show plus have seen Tom Borisch's boat but neither of them running.
Have you picked out a Cat to put one of these little monsters into yet?
