Adjusting Prop Depth.

I have a large gas outboard and I noticed that the mount has verticle slots in it and was told that is there to control the depth the prop is at. So where do I start? I have heard of people bringing the props partially out of the water. Excuse my ignorance as for i am new, but it is truely ignorant NOT to ask! :D ;) :p

what prop are you using? i would start with the prop hub about 3/16 under the hull and go up from there.

I am using a Prather 270 on a large Tunnel Hull. The Outboard seems to sit pretty low in the water and maybe even drags a bit until it has built up enough speed. Look in my gallery and you will see the large unit on the big boat (Mercury scale piece). Thanks for helping.. :)

I'd start it slightly above the bottom of the sponsons. If you have a leaf type Diningroom table, open it up enough to let the lower unit hang through it or use a board with a slot cut into it. Anyway, adjust the motor so that the top of the skeg is just above the table. Tunnel hulls vary on their setups a little, but this should put you in the neighborhood.
