newbie needs help!!!!

just got a 55' gas boat never been drilled for motor are anything for that matter how do you know how far foward or back the motor goes ?
maybe someone knows of a site that will give you build help I'm sure there has to be some balance for best performance! just not sure where to start:(

I'm guessing that it's a Dumas Scarab. The center of gravity point should be 30-33% forward of the transom.
