Build your own Rc Boat !
 
we have been interested in making our Rc boat ,but me and my friend are specialized on the electrical and programming fields more than the Mechanical and construction phases , but that won't stop us from begging designing our prototype on solidworks and make some calculations I will point some phases we been through :

- Static Solid, Archimedes Push ...
- calculates volume and dimensions
- software design
- the choice of electrical parts based on our needs

but doing all that without a specialist confirmation , that will be risky
and about the construction anyone have an idea about how to build the shell with that detail on the paper design , and for the steering system we are still confused

so anyone have experience here can talk to ? :confused:

Oh Boy! A home built project.
So, first things first. Before anyone can help you, we need to know some design parameters:
1) Are you looking at a hull built for speed or for load carrying
2) Are you looking for a higher top speed or high torque
3) Are you looking at something you can program a route into or looking at manual control?
Next, you need to consider what kind of hull you want to build:
There are displacement hulls, such as the type used for cargo ships
There are planing hulls, like used on a ski boat
There are semi-displacement hulls that are sort of a combination of the other two. An example of one would be a WWII PT Boat.

As you can tell, there is a lot more to designing and building a boat than just calculations and formulas.

it's not really a home project ,but the end of studies project , it's mostly based on the electrical and controlling features which we will add implementing new technologies ... , but we can not miss with the mechanical part

Okay, that makes things a little different. This brings up a whole new set of questions, to go along with those I already asked"
1) How big of boat do you need? When you think about what you have to put into the boat, you have to consider the length, width and depth of the hull as well as how much everything is going to weigh. The weight of everything will cause the hull to "displace" water. How deep the hull goes to displace that weight in water will determine how deep the hull must be. You need to look at how far into the water they hull will sit and how much "freeboard" or dry side height you want your boat to have. Since your boat is going to have electrical systems in it, you need to consider how much freeboard it will require to keep the electrical systems dry
2) How much "off the shelf" tech can you use? My boats have an onboard radio receiver, throttle and rudder servos and a battery pack. They are all manufactured by Futaba of Japan, along with the transmitter. Since this is a school project, probably electrical engineering, you will probably be designing your own stuff so you need to get that built FIRST
3) What are you going to use for a drive system? There are five basic drive systems that are used on boats or ships
  • Surface drive propellor
  • Subsurface drive propellor
  • Stern paddle wheel
  • Side paddle wheel
  • I don't remember the name but it uses vertical fins that rotate on a horizontal plate on the bottom of the boat
You also have to choose between electric, gas IC or nitro/methane IC for power
4) How are you going to steer your boat, differential steering or using a rudder?

well I'll try to mention all the main points
1- for the shell we calculated the submerged height (5 cm ) and you can see the whole height in the picture notation
2- and about the boat is all about the control and collecting information about the weather , so I think we do need neither speed or weight lifting
3- and for the motorization we choose the brushless motors using differentials steering (using Raspberry PI ) as an information's treatment system
4 -but in this phase we need a confirmation for the boat design to start the construction phase as you see we made many different design and we don't know which one is the perfect one !
