RC boat plans
Hey everyone! I’m new to this forum but feel like i am in the right place for what I need. I want to build my first RC boat but I want to build it from scratch not from a kit and the two boats I have been looking at are the Mystic C5000 and a hydroplane like the Miss Budweiser both being about 52”. Does anyone know where I can get some good building plans for my project?

You can get sets of plans for a majority of the unlimited hydroplanes at Newton Marine - The Best Source for Scale Hydroplane Plans
Just be aware, the plans are for 1/8 scale boats that are between 42 and 46 inches long and designed to run a .67(11cc) engine. If you really want to have a boat that big, you can enlarge the plans 20%, drop in a gas engine and run it as a gas scale. The only catch is that cockpit and engine covers are harder to find for some of the boats in that size. Here are some gas scale cowls that R/C Boat Company has available: https://www.rcboatcompany.com/gas-scale-cowlings and here's his website homepage: https://www.rcboatcompany.com Just a word of caution. The plans sold by Newton Marine DO NOT INCLUDE DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO BUILD THEM!!!!!! |
Just got to thinking. There are a couple of clubs in your area that might have someone close by to help you as needed. I would look at these two sites for more information:
::: The Official Site of the North American Model Boat Association ::: https://impba.net/officers-districts-clubs/#District5 |

It appears that the site noted above (Newtonmarine.com) is not up. Does anyone have any other leads. I would like to try a scratch build from plans but not sure where to get a good quality set of clean plans from a reputable source.
I have a set of plans for the 82 Atlas Van Lines but it is not very well detailed and I am not sure how to get it printed out to scale size so I can use it for making templates from. Any help would be appreciated. Raymond |
The guy David Newton uses to maintain his website is apparently having personal problems. He is still open for business; you just have to email him at [email protected]
When you get you plans, take the plans to a blueprinting shop and have them enlarge them by 20%. That will get them to the size you want as well as make your finished boat legal to race at any IMPBA or NAMBA race. |

. You are much better off to buy a balsa kit and build it. These kits basically come with all the precut sections of wood that you will build from scratch, it’s just easier because the pieces are already cut for you, you just need to build it.

I reached out to David via his EM and asked for his advise how I know what info to give the print shop so that the plans get printed to the correct scale size. I believe I have the wood working skills to launch my first scratch build project but I am a little sketchy around getting a good clean set of plans printed to the correct size to work from. |
